A tremendous original late 1920s pen and ink drawing by Cardwell Higgins titled “A Delightful Page in the Record of My Existence”. The artist created five of these noir illustrative costumed art deco pen & ink drawings between the years of 1927 – 1929 that were later marketed as limited edition art prints under the guidance of Charles Martignette in 1979. This is assuredly the finest from this series of Aubrey Beardsley / Harry Clarke inspired fantasy scenes that the young Higgins executed. From the Estate of Charles Martignette, who championed the efforts of Cardwell Higgins and organized a one man show for the artist in 1983 shortly after the artist’s death in Hollywood Florida.

A large and early Zoe Mozert pastel, used as commissioned calendar art in the early 1930s. This illustration is remembered as one of Mozert’s most enduring and well realized images. Featuring a fabulous flapper girl with idealized Jean Harlow like features in a stylish art deco turban, this is a colorful commissioned artwork recently unearthed from a Florida estate.

A delightful original circa 1915-1925 gouache commercial illustration of unknown use and origin, showing a well articulated Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman and an Indian Chief in traditional headdress, both on horseback, envisioned in the vast expanses of The Canadian Rocky Mountains. This fine old gouache illustration painting is framed in a handsome wide profile antique period frame.

A wonderful original oil on canvas used as a poster design for the 1937 Warner Bros. Western film starring Dick Foran titled Prairie Thunder. Illustrated in this work are Albert J. Smith, Janet Shaw and Jim Corey. Ratterman was a gifted illustrator whose work appeared in many of the major “slick magazines” as advertisements and/or covers.

An original 1946 commissioned oil on canvas by the female American Illustrator and occasional pin-up artist E.B. Segner. Created for the Louis F. Dow Calendar Company, (the Saint Paul Minnesota rival and competitor of Brown & Bigelow) whose roster of artists included Billy Devorss, Gil Elvgren, Henry Clive and Jules Erbit. Work is nicely framed in a newer gallery frame on original pine stretchers with notations from the Calendar Company.

On a Clear Day…

This Everett Shinn pencil & gouache artwork offers a humorous take on class relations, and seemingly, the effects of intoxication. A well-heeled gentleman is shown face down in the grass as an unflappable butler bends down to assess the situation. Shinn was renowned for his ability to capture the minute distinctions of society and debauchery, and this artwork displays his fluid and lively style.

A large and early bathing beauty themed pin-up illustration in pastel by K.O. Munson, the gifted and prolific illustrator who worked many years for The Brown & Bigelow Calendar Company. This is an early work note the stylized signature and 1940’s glamour girl pose. Work is in fine condition and properly lined behind glass in an attractive period wide profile gold gesso frame.

Jewel Flowers was Armstrong’s favorite model and closest personal friend. She passed away last year and is fondly remembered and sorely missed by the pin-up and illustration art community. Her zesty, sexy spirit, and the kinship between the artist and model are clearly visible in this wonderful pastel.

This is original artwork by the legendary art nouveau illustrator, Raphael Kirchner. This piece was commissioned for a turn-of-the-century postcard. Kirchner was revered for his sensual and sexually-provocative “Kirchner Girls”. These appeared monthly in La Vie Parisienne, a notorious French publication. Kirchner was perhaps best known as a postcard illustrator. This is a wonderfully detailed, stylized art nouveau rendering of a pan flute playing maiden. It is matted in a stunning period frame.

This Earl Moran original pastel features a cheeky, carhop waitress from the long-gone drive-in-diner era, providing car side service with a smile. This pastel was commissioned by Brown & Bigelow, a sample printed ink blotter is included in sale. Text reads in full A waitress leads a happy life, and sunshine fills her days. The outlook’s good the job is fine, because money grows on trays.
