A deftly rendered precise original gouache painting from 1937 used for a poster designed for a South Kensington, England Science Museum show. Signed Eileen McKinney on the verso and dated April 3, 1937. The work is entrenched with imagery inspired by the ongoing industrial revolution which was occurring throughout much of the world and captures the public’s fascination with the machine, science and industry as they were to intersect in what has become known as “The Machine Age”. The artist uses elements of Russian Constructivist poster design which emphasizes the particular material properties of an object added with it’s three dimensional spatial presence. This design aesthetic was very tied into Industry and Modernism and became harmonious with the graphics and imagery associated with The Machine Age.

This original 1942 oil-on-board artwork by well listed female artist Bettina Steinke was commissioned for a United States Government WWII poster titled “Keep ‘Em Flying”. The image also became popular as a calendar art print titled “When They Came Marching Home” for The Louis F. Dow calendar company during the years of World War II and the immediate post-war period. The image became one of the enduring pictures of a changing America during wartime, featuring a victory girl nurse and armed forces servicemen working together to protect the nation.

An enchanting watercolor painting by Alex Luders depicting a smoldering nude yet concealed flapper girl in the art deco manner. The detail on this is sensational. The artist Alex Luders did much commercial Hollywood advertising poster art for Fox Films including Shirley Temple and Jack Holt’s starring turn in the 1935 feature film The Littlest Rebel. This is presumed to also be a commissioned work for an as of yet undetermined art deco era movie campaign.
