A stunning, highly detailed, bizarre, and erotic work by the brilliant illustrator Fortunio Matanio. This historically accurate and technically remarkable drawing depicts a climactic scene from Machiavelli’s The Prince. Text on verso reads “Gio Matteo Curing the daughter of Amedia.” The scene depicts an erotic yet twisted exorcism, which is both incredibly intricate and almost photo-realistic in composition. This most likely was created to accompany an excerpt from Machiavelli’s Renaissance masterpiece printed in Britannia & Eve Magazine.

This unhinged and provocatively erotic original illustration by the artist & illustrator Mahlon Blaine dates to the 1940s. It has two functioning doors that when opened reveal the magicians assistant engaged in coitus with a horned satyr.  The gouache painting is housed inside an innocuous  faux wood, paper, hardcover display folio. Garishly colored and […]

A macabre and dark highly inventive large format gouache illustration painting by Harrison Fisher used as a full color book plate in the 1907 edition of “A Dream of Fair Women” by Lord Alfred Tennyson. In this scene our maiden fair has just completed lent and prepares to give the devil his due and go out ballroom dancing in revealing for the day, corseted attire. This is a classic Harrison Fisher painting and a wonderful and historically impactful example of late Victorian period imagery where traditional customs are seen colliding with a less restrained, more promiscuous Edwardian vision of femininity.

A large signed and dated 1917 oil on canvas by Margaret Lindsay Williams, the important Royal Academy award winning Welsh artist. Williams has the distinction of being the lone artist to have had a studio in Westminster Abbey. Along with her darkly beautiful fine art, she painted portraits of Queen Alexandria and The Prince of Wales. In 1922, amidst much hoopla, she was brought to the US to paint President Harding’s portrait. This remarkable large work bears its label from a 1917 London’s Royal Academy exhibition. This is an important large decorative dark masterwork from an artist of the utmost historical significance.
