A large and important exhibited American impressionist oil painting by the Boston artist Arthur Prince Spear, 1879-1959. The painting features an outstanding large ethereal and luminous trio of sea nymphs in silhouette – ablaze at sea under a full moon. This is painted in an impressionist style with a textured heavy impasto technique. Housed in its original carved gold leaf wood frame.

An important original oil painting by the German artist Paul Thumann titled “Psyche”. This groundbreaking erotic and risque winged fairy image was the artist’s most revered work. Thumann brought this painting to The United States in 1893 and sold the reproduction rights to “White Rock Table Water” for use in print ads and tin lithographic tip trays (a period example is included with sale). This was acquired by the prestigious Vose Gallery in Boston in 1913 and was framed at that time by them in a hand carved, signed and numbered Carrig-Rohane wide profile Arts & Crafts frame that like the painting is of museum quality.

We are pleased to offer this stunning pastel from 1920 by Arthur Spear Prince. A moving and evocotive fantastical work which served as a study for the larger exhibited oil painting titled “Wings of The Morning”. Labeled on verso and marked “Fenway Studios Boston.” This is framed and matted in a beautiful American Arts & Crafts aesthetic period gesso frame. Work is dated and signed lower right.
