Willy Müller-Gera (1887-1981) was a German artist and illustrator known for his etchings and landscapes of the pastoral German countryside as well as his dark and subversive interpretations of folk tales and mythology. This work, titled Faun, shows the horned Roman god Faunus (known in Greek mythology as Pan), seducing a courtesan in risqué rococo costume, this is an unusual finely detailed artwork in a modernist, art deco, avant-garde aesthetic. An electric rendering in gouache and india ink, signed in the lower left, verso retains the artist’s address label. Nicely framed in a period art deco antique frame and ready to enjoy.
