Rolf Armstrong’s Final Brown & Bigelow Calendar Art
This is an absolutely adorable pastel thumbnail sketch by the Father of American Pin-Up, Rolf Armstrong. Featuring the artist’s muse and lifelong friend Jewel Flowers, this pastel preliminary sketch would become the published calendar art titled “All Smiles”, which was Armstrong’s last commissioned work for Brown & Bigelow in 1958.
This thumbnail sketch was gifted to Flowers by Armstrong and it remained in her possession until it was purchased by Mike Wooldridge, a leading authority and collector of works by Rolf Armstrong. Wooldridge co-authored two books on the subject: Pin-Up Dreams and The Glamour Girl: A Collector’s Guide to Rolf Armstrong, and got to know Flowers personally during his research.
This pastel is in excellent condition, matted and framed under glass.
