Adorable Jewel Flowers
This is a beautiful, c. 1950, unpublished pastel illustration by the Father of American Pin-Up, Rolf Armstrong. This well-rendered sketch features the artist’s muse and lifelong friend Jewel Flowers wearing a glamorous yellow gown and her mega-watt beaming smile. The pose and layout of this sketch bears a resemblance to Armstrong’s published calendar artwork titled “Adorable”, which also featured Jewel Flowers as the model.
Armstrong created this pastel for Flowers as a gift and it remained in her possession until it was purchased by Mike Wooldridge, a leading authority and collector of works by Rolf Armstrong. Wooldridge co-authored two books on the subject: Pin-Up Dreams and The Glamour Girl: A Collector’s Guide to Rolf Armstrong, and got to know Flowers personally during his research.
This pastel is in excellent condition and is framed behind glass in a gold painted wood frame with matting.
