This large and vibrant Peter Driben pin-up girl illustration was created for use as the August 1949 cover of Wink Magazine – A Whirl Of Girls. Classic cheesecake, this painting also appeared as the February 1956 cover of Beauty Parade – The World’s Loveliest Girls. Along with being lovely, Driben’s pin-up creations are recognized as some of the most flamboyant and unique works in the genre, with girls who looked both low-rent and up-for-anything when compared to the more austere Varga and Petty girls who graced the pages of Esquire. This is a quintessential Driben pin-up, with the voluptuous blonde model in leg show garter girl allure winking to the viewer (as what could be more appropriate for this commission?). In her excellent analysis on the artist in the Taschen volume The Art Of Pin-up, author Dian Hanson notes “Driben’s girls couldn’t really be called “good”. Their costumes were consciously trashy, their heels whorishly high and their thighs just too far too voluptuous.”
And presumably; therein lies the appeal! Painting is in excellent condition and handsomely framed under glass, please call or write for a condition report.
