Stanley Borack created this striking, evocative and finely rendered painting for the cover of the 1954 Dell Books paperback Silver Doll by Blair Treynor. A lurid pulp fiction page turner set in Sin City; the back cover slug advertises “the story of a man in the rackets; of the doll who wanted to keep him there, and the woman who wanted to bail out…a smart gal in a sucker’s set-up…”
Illustration has been nicely matted and framed under glass and a nice clean edition of the published paperback is included in the sale. Painting has a fine cut line in the surface which mimics the title outlay on the published paperback as it appeared in print, this is a remnant from the publishing process and does not interfere with any of the figures appearing in the illustration.
