A fabulous published erotic pin-up painting by Freeman Elliott for The Brown & Bigelow Calendar Company. The image appeared in 1948 as one of the two images in a double deck of playing cards put out by the calendar giant marketed with the title “Winning Aces”. From the Collection of Charles Martignette and Louis Meisel, the artwork appears in The Great American Pin-up (Taschen, 1996), as plate #340. The companion painting from the card set with the green background sold at auction in 2010 for $13,150.00. Freeman Elliott was a Chicago based artist and illustrator who found work at the advertising agency Stevens/Gross were he worked alongside Gil Elvgren, Al Buell, Haddon Sundblom and their other impressive staff artists. Painting is simply matted and framed under plexiglass in a black wood frame and verso bears an inkstamp from The Louis Meisel gallery in New York City. A complete double deck of the vintage playing cards are included in the sale.
