Dating to 1950, The Toast of The Town is a captivating, pin-up pastel by noted illustrator and occasional calendar artist Victor Tchetchet. In an unusual nod to Coles Phillips’s “Fadeaway Girls”, the artist depicts this nude blonde reveler disappearing into the background even as she commands the full attention of the viewer, giving the work an almost dream-like quality.
Tchetchet is best known for his pin-up The Favorite Model, and for his many movie magazine covers. We have never come across the published version of this pastel, though presumably it was a commissioned pin-up calendar illustration. Beautifully double matted under glass in a handsome gallery frame.
