Rare, original cover art for a 1950 Line-Up Detective Cases pulp magazine. This piece was used to illustrate the interior story: I am a $100 a Night Call Girl!
Howell Dodd was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He did many illustrations for Liberty Magazine, was an art teacher and won several Carnegie Awards for his paintings. Original pulp illustrations are, of course, very scarce.
This is a genre defining example of 1950’s pulp bad girl cover art and like much pulp art, it is unsigned but came directly from the Dodd estate.
I will include an eBay listing of this same issue of magazine with a color printed version of this published pulp and its cover artwork.
Additionally there is a stack of biographical information, photographs and news clippings on Howell Dodd which were gathered at the estate where this painting was originally purchased.
