This beautiful and mysterious illustration by Edwin Georgi was created in 1954 as illustration for an interior story in the Saturday Evening Post. Later, a very similar but more tightly rendered variation on this theme would appear in Redbook Magazine illustrating a story titled Marry For Money.
While we have been unable to locate this version appearing in print, the verso tag shows clearly that it was approved for publication by Curtis Publishing, and its loose style does match what he was submitting for smaller spot illustrations during the mid 1950s.
The image shows a flirtatious blonde looking off to the right as a besotted suitor in the background looks at her. This depiction of a desired yet seemingly unattainable woman in the foreground ignoring at least one other figure in the scene was a favorite composition of the artist’s. Here the moody use of blues in the sky and her outfit serve to underscore how her beauty is like a force of nature. A great and stylish mid-century example.
