This oil on board painting by Samson Pollen was created as cover art for the 1955 paperback Mambo To Murder, one half of the double sided Ace Double Novel D-109. Private eye Joe Moran, who had his license revoked for extracting “two fisted justice” is shown in a bleak urban hotel room lit by an outside neon bar sign. In the foreground is a blonde street smart dancing girl, who taught Joe “the steps of a dance macabre” in the lurid pulp fiction novel by Ronal Kayser, writing under the pseudonym Dale Clark.
From the Bob and Diane Yaspan Collection, painting has been handsomely framed under glass in a presentation which includes the published paperback book title.
