This is a large format erotic pin-up calendar painting by the English illustrator Arnold Armitage. This was likely painted in about 1950 and appeared in calendars at that time with the title Studio Setting. This nude beauty proved too provocative for some markets, and the calendar company began issuing a version of this piece wherein the nudity was obscured with the inclusion of a sheer bra and slip lingerie set. Both a print showing the nude version and a dated 1955 calendar of the image that shows the censored version of the artwork are included with sale. The lingerie was likely painted on a clear plastic overlay by a calendar company staff artist in order to produce variants of the image, and was never in fact painted by the artist Arnold Armitage or a part of this oil on canvas original painting. This breezy nude in an artist’s studio scene is all-original and a fresh to the market recently discovered pin-up painting that we were delighted to uncover. Painting is handsomely framed in a wide profile wood gallery frame and ready to enjoy.
