Grapefruit Moon Gallery will be exhibiting original Cream of Wheat advertising illustrations at Red Wing Framing Gallery October 10-November 2, 2008. Featuring work from the likes of N.C. Wyeth, Jessie Willcox Smith, and St Paul’s own Edward V. Brewer, the Emery Mapes-led campaign depicted the Cream of Wheat brand in the domestic space, insisting on the uniquely American protectionist instinct with slews of young children needing a hot breakfast from Rastus, the African American chef.
Stop by southern Minnesota to view these iconic Mill City advertisements marking a key period in early twentieth century and offering insight into an iconic American brand.
