A decidedly art deco jazz age original cover illustration for Judge Magazine signed F. Hanley lower right. Judge Magazine was a precurser to Mad and Cracked and other later politically charged humor magazines which excelled in lampooning the current trends and pop culture fads .
That is why this is a particularily rich example as the nerdy, banker type pre-egghead “egghead” is counting a large wad of his cash in an attempt to keep up with his 2 lean angular jazz baby big spender female companions . A Great Depression-inspired take from the midst of it all; January 1931. In a great period ornate carved gesso frame. A complete copy of the published magazine is included in the sale.
