This is the second of two provocative, cheeky, and sexy large nude original pin-ups we are offering by the classic American illustrator Ren Wicks from his Famous And Infamous Ladies Of The Old West, commissioned by Harolds Club Casino, in Reno Nevada.
Wicks, a popular pin-up artist who was frequently commissioned to create advertising art for aviation and wartime industries, has been called the master of “wings and women.”
This large and lovely gouache on illustration board features the infamous Lola Montez, creator of the Tarantula Dance, and the phrase “whatever Lola wants Lola gets.”
Montez, a European sensation in the 1840’s moved to the US West during the gold rush and made quite a stir as baudy entertainer and consort to the miners. Here she is envisioned in all her coy and inviting, showgirl glory.
This painting is perfect in theme and scale for a tavern, pool room, or den. It was originally created for and displayed at Reno’s historic casino, Harold’s Club, and reproduced in the club’s 1968 calendar featuring the wildest women of the Old West.
In the late 1960’s, Harold’s Club commissioned a different popular pin-up artist each year to create a custom calendar–other commissioned artists include Fritz Willis. This artwork is in excellent condition and framed in an eye-catching gesso frame.
