A large format, technically adept, and satirical advertising illustration by the Minneapolis artist G.R. Cheesebrough. This is titled “The Airlines” and fittingly was created as an advertisement for Venture Travel in May, 1977. We love the stylized humorous mid-century 1970s aesthetic; the wide tie in particular is a great touch. The image shows a pilot and lead flight attendant looking inscrutable behind a smiling business traveler who is going first class all the way. The small flourishes, like the naming of the airlines “Vulture,” and the fantastical hats worn by the crew, are delightful. Illustration has original matting with a name plaque and a dated certificate of authenticity attached to the verso cardboard backing.
