An unsigned oil on stretched canvas pulp cover painting for the December 1947 issue of the Thrilling Publications Western title Thrilling Western. A rugged square jawed handsome cowboy with a noose around his neck engages in a barbed wire shoot out illustrating the interior story Bullets and Salt by Bradford Scott. The stories tag-line as follows … When deadly sidewinders combine in a battle for Texas salt mines, El Halcon oils his trusty six-guns and saddles up for bloody war!!
Grapefruit Moon Gallery recently purchased seven 1940s pulp cover paintings from an east coast collection belonging to a former employee of the publisher. Painting has been fastened on new pine back stretcher bars and displays very well. While unsigned this is likely the work of Sam Cherry who worked frequently for this publishing house during the 1940s.
