Grapefruit Moon Gallery is delighted to offer a fresh-to-the-market macabre oil on canvas pulp cover painting by Rafael DeSoto which appeared on the June, 1948 issue of Dime Mystery Magazine – The Magazine of Weird Mystery. The darkly dramatic scene shows a green skeleton in formal magician’s costume pulling a hot blonde number out of a hat. Illustrating the interior story, “The Last Of Mrs. Satan” by Talmadge Powell. DeSoto excelled at creating covers that instantly captured the fear, terror and danger which were the calling cards of the menace pulp titles in America.
Painting is handsomely framed and a complete copy of the published pulp edition as well as a printers proof un-circulated cover are included in the sale.
