This large James Arthur/Arthur Studios mixed media work was created at the turn of the 20th century for Calendar reproduction. Work is a heavily tinted original gelatin silver photograph dated and labeled James Arthur 1901 lower right. A dreamy interior scene, reminiscent of Jan Saudek, shows a sleeping infant and her bisque antique French doll watched by their faithful Saint Bernard companion. This type of interior genre scene was a popular Victorian theme, and Arthur John Elsley made a career out of such images.
