A large, colorful, and decidedly art deco cover illustration by Dal Holcomb commissioned in 1941 for a King Feature Syndicate magazine with the initials I.F.S. Scene features a modernist Edwardian princess regally assessing a dispatcher's entanglement. A bright colorful and boldly rendered gouache on illustration board, nicely matted and framed in a period art deco ornate cornered gesso frame.

Holcomb was a successful commercial illustrator whose work primarily appeared in ad campaigns for Mazda Lamps, Listerine and other slick magazine advertising during the 1930s. His cover work for Collier's, American Weekly, College Humor & Liberty magazine's is also fondly regarded and collectible.
