A Child's Best Friends
James Arthur (1901)
This large James Arthur/Arthur Studios mixed media work was created at the turn of the 20th century for Calendar reproduction. Work is a heavily tinted original gelatin silver photograph dated and labeled Jamed Arthur 1901 lower right. A dreamy interior scene, reminiscent of Jan Saudek, shows a sleeping infant and her bisque antique French doll watched by their faithful Saint Bernard companion. This type of interior genre scene was a popular Victorian theme, and Arthur John Elsley made a career out of such images.
Trips to Win
James Arthur (1901)
A very rare, one-of-a-kind, hand tinted James Arthur / Arthur Studios gelatin silver photograph. A risque art nouveau, belle epoque era interior scene with 3 flirty voluptuous beauties playing cards. Arthur Studio specialized in commercial calendar art illustration using a mixed media technique of photography and paints. They also created one of a kind hand tinted decorative art presentations such as this exquisite surviving masterwork. This retains its elaborate shadow box styled original gold gilt plaster frame and walnut wood outer frame box.
King Lear
Edwin Austin Abbey (1918-1923)
This is the second of a pair of institution-sized monumental hand-tinted highlighted fine art prints that were displayed in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art after the turn of the last century. They found their way to a convent in the Midwest and recently went up for sale. I am proud to offer this most unusual Edwin Austin Abbey, King Lear, A Farewell To Cordelia
Signed Rolf Armstrong Print & Christmas Card
Rolf Armstrong (Signed in 1948 )
An original Rolf Armstrong lithograph titled It's Your Play, inscribed by Armstrong to a young girl by the name of Ann Hooper ... " TO ANN HOOPER MY 1948 MODEL WITH BEST REGARDS ROLF ARMSTRONG". She was a very young girl at the time and Armstrong was of course joking the model is Jewel Flowers. This comes with an exceedingly scarce, original vintage Rolf Armstrong Christmas card titled CHRISTMAS CAROLS BY ROLF ARMSTRONG AND HIS ANGELS.
Art Deco Nude Etching
Unknown (1920's)
A highly stylized, art deco original etching in the manner of Rockwell Kent, Lynd Ward, and other period art deco artists. Image is evocotive and surreal in form; notice the female nude form in the background. Artwork is unsigned and retains original frame and blue velvet matting which shows some staining but appears original to etching and is still quite charming as seen.
