We are pleased to have this original pastel by the talented and prolific pin-up artist and illustrator R. Wilson Hammell. This Spanish attired, flapper girl envisioning of Joan Crawford was created either as a calendar art print for The Joseph Hoover Calendar Company or an early talkie movie era Magazine Cover. Crawford was an eager publicity hound in the early 1930's filling the void created by the elusive Garbo, who refused any publicity during the era of Crawford's ascendancy to stardom. The attractive and outgoing Texas born Lucille Fay LeSueur painstakingly transformed herself into the elegant epitome of Flapper girl opulance and decadence, and her star ascended following her 1928 breakthrough dancing and starring turn in Our Dancing Daughters..

While the artist R. Wilson Hammell was very prolific during the 1930's, few of his original pastels have survived and this is one of his finest Hollywood Glamour commissioned portraits. This pastel is nicely matted, properly lined, and beautifully framed in high end gallery frame.
