A whimsical and technically adept Bill Medcalf calendar painting, likely created for The Brown & Bigelow Calendar Company in the early 1960s. This playfully evokes the look and feel of fellow illustrator Bill Layne who at one time worked for Walt Disney as an animator, and later found work at Brown & Bigelow alongside Medcalf. At the time this was created, B&B was creating custom single usage imagery for some of their largest advertising clients, and this was one in a series which was commissioned by a Jeweler inspired by the popular elfin characters Bill Layne had invented for the Red Owl grocery chain calendars.
